Hi everyone! I feel so privileged to have this opportunity to be a guest blogger for the ethreeone. community and am so impressed by how active Brina and the e31. team have been in supporting the empowerment of women.
I am currently a business student at the University of Victoria and with just four more weeks until graduating, I couldn’t be more excited! I am specializing in entrepreneurship in the hopes to one day, become an operations manager in the manufacturing industry. I absolutely love travelling and have been working on my personal goal to travel to at least one new country every year; I’m at 13 so far!
As a business student, I’ve attended countless networking events, given presentations, and done my fare share of interviews. I soon came to realize that it’s become increasingly more difficult to set your self apart from the many other ‘suits’ that surround you. I would look over at the person sitting next to me and notice the same shades of navy blue, creams and of course the all-traditional black. This got me thinking about my look. I still wanted to stay classic and professional, but I wanted to have an edge.
That’s when I began structuring my outfits by a signature piece such as wearing a bright blazer to add a pop of colour or using a statement necklace to polish the look. This is also how I’ve organized my closet: with classic pieces that can be easily paired on one side and my more vibrant choices on the other – in what I like to call my ‘statement collection’. Meshing the two together is how I put a piece of “me” in my professional style.
I think its important to remember that employers are people and want to get to know you as much as your skills. Accordingly, the way you dress is a great platform to showcase your personality.
I’d like to sign off with a quote that I look to, to remind me of the importance of just being myself:
So be BOLD, standout, because we’re all excited to see who you are.
