Hello everyone! I’m Mitra Barber, and I am so excited to finally be writing my first post here on e31.!
A little about me: I graduated from UVic’s BCom program last year with a specialization in entrepreneurship and since then have been working at Dynamite’s downtown location in Victoria. I am 22 years old, a Victoria local and love fashion, blogging, shopping, running, summers, chocolate, statement necklaces and all things leopard print! If I’m not working, at the gym or out with my girl friends I am working on my fashion and style blog, Leopard Couture. I started LC back in November of 2013 while living in Tokyo on exchange.
Firstly, Tokyo is incredible, I highly encourage you to visit if you have the chance! The people, the food, the buildings, the culture, the shopping, the city is amazing! And of course…the fashion! While living in Tokyo, I felt as though I could literally wear anything I wanted. I started exploring new styles and trends, and was constantly going outside of my comfort zone with fashion. I would purposely go into the fitting rooms with items I wouldn’t usually consider, and ended up falling in love with so many of them! I realized I had been dressing the same way for so long that I never gave many things a chance. You really don’t know until you try! I knew I wanted to share my style advice with other females and also encourage them to try new trends and styles. So in hopes to inspire, I created LC!
In addition to blogging, I love helping others dress their best! This is why I started my personal styling business called, Style Me Leopard ! I help females clean out their closets, take them shopping for a new wardrobe, and show them how to dress for their lifestyle and body shape. I am really enjoying it so far as I love seeing my client’s grow and their confidence increase with their new style and wardrobe! I am moving to Vancouver in August and am very excited to continue styling clients, growing LC and starting the next chapter of my life!
Okay now let’s talk fashion! Although my job does not require me to wear business casual -pencil skirts, buttons ups and structured blazers- I still need to look professional when meeting my clients! I have a lot of business casual pieces in my wardrobe from previous co-op work terms/ 4 years in BCom, so I like to find a way to style them with my more chic and trendier pieces.
For my outfit, I am wearing this 2 in 1 top from LOFT that I absolutely admire! It’s so easy to throw on and looks very put together with my black slacks. I paired it with my favourite open toe heels and added a clutch with my signature print..leopard! It adds some texture and personality to my look! I am a huge fan of prints and colour, but I have to admit I do like to rock a little black and white sometimes. It’s bold, chic and classy. You could style this outfit with a structured tote, simple flat or wedge and throw on a blazer to make it more office appropriate!
Having a versatile wardrobe is super key and is a message I tell my client’s all the time! You want to have the basics plus a few trendier/ statement pieces that can transform your look from day to night or office to weekend. Get creative and try styling certain articles in your wardrobe with completely different items! Don’t always style ‘that shirt’ with ‘those pants’, switch it up! Play dress up in your closet for an hour or 2 and see how many other combinations you can come up with that you never considered! You can always check out Pinterest for some inspo too!
Thanks so much for reading today! If you have a moment come visit me on Leopard Couture and feel free to contact me at email@example.com if you have any Q’s about fashion, need some style advice or just want to connect!
Have a wonderful day!! xx
